The involvement of the apip-acam Foundation in the penals phere began in1984 with its collaboration with La Model Correctional Facility
It was from 1991 when a more stable collaboration with the Justice Department was established for the servicing of people subjected to penal measures through the implementation of several programs, both inside penal institutions and in the community. Our actions are intended to offer opportunities of reintegration to convicts by accompanying them in their return to the community and fostering their desistance of criminal behaviour in order to reduce their chances of recidivism. Here below, we present the different implemented actions to achieve such goals:
1. Management of so-called ‘Dependent Units’ for correctional facility inmates who are eligible for the open prison regime.
Accommodations outside the penitentiary facility, normally in a community environment, where a comprehensive scheme to attain social and occupational integration and a preparation for live in freedom is implemented.
2. Management of the programme for the implementation and development of Community Service Sanctions (Unpaid work sentences) in the province of Barcelona.
Support to the people with Community Service sanctions (in the province of Barcelona). Design of the community work programme to serve the sentence; involvement of non-profit organizations, where the community service will be performed; and monitoring of the implementation of the work programme in order to report to the judicial authorities.
3. Collaborating entity of the Justice Department in the provision of places where people convicted to Community Service can serve the sentence
